Living with stress can feel uncomfortable, scary, and annoying




If it’s not one thing, it is another, and life can become overwhelming. Though stress is inconvenient to your life, there are ways to cope. Some people practice meditation, talk to a mental health professional, practice yoga, or workout. Another way to cope is aromatherapy. Essential Oils are said to help with stress and anxiety.


​ There’s also some research suggesting that the scent of aromatherapy essential oils may help. Aromatherapy is also another form of coping with stress. In 2016, McKinley J. Sangwin did a study on Stress and Aromathertherapy Intervention Efficacy. His subjects were a group of female freshmen at the University of Montana. His results showed that their stress decreased from using aromatherapy. 


Health Essentials also shared that aromatherapy decreases anxiety. “The power of aromatherapy can be seen in our sense of smell’s ability to bring forth vivid memory.” They also shared that “aromatherapy, specifically lavender, can improve mood and lessen anxiety.”

Lavender

Lavender essential oil is usually a favorite! But for credible purposes, Natural Medicine Journal explains that “Lavender oil has reduced dose-dependently spontaneous motility and caffeine-induced hyperactivity of mice.” International Journal of Nursing Practice published a study revealing that using a 3% lavender oil spray on clothing was found to be effective in reducing work-related stress for three to four days.


Orange

“Orange essential oil is a natural product commonly used in aromatherapy. Thought to possess healing properties, orange essential oil contains the aromatic compounds of the sweet orange plant (Citrus sinensis).

Orange essential oil is used to relieve stress in aromatherapy but is also utilized as a flavoring agent by food manufacturers and a fragrance by cosmetics and cleaning supplies manufacturers,” according to VeryWellMind.


Bergamot

Though the research on bergamot oil is limited, a study in 2015 says Bergamot essential oil may improve negative emotions and fatigue. Also, in 2017 Psychotherapy Research found that exposure to the aroma of bergamot essential oil for 15 minutes improved participants’ positive feelings in the waiting room of a mental health treatment center.


Lemon

VeryWellMind shared that “Lemon essential oil, sourced from the leaves of the lemon plant, has been found in preliminary studies in animals to have sedative and anxiety-reducing properties.”


Lemon Grass

 Lemongrass essential oil is an oil from the lemongrass herb. Applying or Inhaling the scent of the oil is said to create relaxation and reduce anxiety symptoms.


Neroli

Apparently, breathing in the scent of this essential oil can help with excessive worrying.
